energetic tourists, there are trekkings at Uttar Pradesh and
Himachal Pradesh, Rock climbing, Skiing, Camel Safari, Hang
gliding and White Water Rafting to name a few. |
|
TREKKING - The best period for trekking is from April to June and from
mid September to November.

CAMEL
SAFARI - Camel Safari is one of the most adventurous of
experiences, and is a novel way to explore the desert. It is
also a singular opportunity to get a glimpse of traditional
Indian life in the desert, with all the hardships and the
beauty. The accommodation on the way consists of primitive
thatched mud huts, and the way of life-though hospitable is
entirely ethnic. Camel safaris generally cover the area
around Jaisalmer, Bikaner, or Jodhpur. The duration can vary
between one day and two weeks. |

MOUNTAINEERING - The greatest adventure of all is the scaling of the Himalayan
peaks. The states of Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Uttar
Pradesh offer bases for mountaineering expeditions. The best
season for mountaineering is from May to October. Please note
prior arrangement like booking a peak has to be made at least six
months before.
WHITE WATER
RAFTING- For people who
love water but find beach resorts too passive, white water
rafting is the perfect way to spend a holiday. This is a new
sport in India but is getting popular now.
Rivers in the upper
reaches of Himalayas make it a really thrilling experience.
The Ganges, the Bhagirathi, the Alakhnanda in the Garhwal
regions of Uttar Pradesh offer plentiful opportunities to
enjoy this sport. |
SKIING- The best skiing season is between December to April. Institute
of Skiing and Mountaineering offer training courses. Popular
skiing slopes are Gulmarg, Narkanda and Kufri. Along the slope
of Rohtang pass, skiing is possible in summer also. Auli near
Joshimath in Garhwal region of the Himalayas is the laest and
best equipped ski resort. Good equipment is available on hire. |
| Hang Gliding
Hang gliding is a very popular
sport in India, especially in the Himalayas where the high
mountains provide a challenge. As hang gliding requires the
use of air currents, Indian weather conditions make it a
favorable sport. This sport is most enjoyable in the Kangra
Valley of Himachal Pradesh. There are well-equipped training
centres in Maharashtra and Karnataka where hang gliders are
provided on rent and lessons are also given. For the casual
glider the trike is a better choice. Such gliders are airborne
by aero towing. The trike connected by a rope tows the glider.
The glider is released when it has reached the desired height
so that the glider can soar with the help of rising heat.
Among the various rallies, the Himalayan Hang Gliding Rally
conducted by Himachal Tourism at Billing in May is the oldest.
The Nilgiris hang Gliding rally also offers a chance to enjoy
the serene beauty of Kalahatty in Ooty. Here the flights
attraction is spotting the wild beasts of the Kalahatty
sanctuary.
