Victoria Memorial: The white marble memorial built by
Lord Curzon during the year 1758-81 has a vague resemblance to the Taj Mahal.
The museum at the memorial has over 3500 exhibits grandfather clocks, books,
portraits, pianos, murals and other memorabilia of the early days of the British
empire. |

Dalhousie Square or BBD Bagh: This is known after three
martyrs of Bengal - Benoy, Badal and Dinesh. There is a tank in the centre of
the BBD Square which is fed by natural springs.
The square is surrounded by many
historical buildings, Raj Bhavan, the residence of the Governor of West Bengal
and the Secretariat of the Government are the important ones. |

The Indian Museum: The museum popularly known as Jadu
Ghar (magic house) is a veritable treasure-house of rare geological, zoological,
botanical, and archaeological items.
Ancient sculptural pieces from Sanchi,
Gandhara, Amravati, Sarnath and Cambodia are absorbing exhibits on display here. |

Dakshineswar Kali Temple: The temple built by Rani Rashmoni in 1847, the main12-spired temple is surrounded by 12 other temples, all of which are dedicated to Lord Shiva.
Shantiniket: The ‘abode of peace’ is a haven for the lover of learning for this is the home of Viswa Bharati, the international university conceived by the poet-laureate of Bengal- the Nobel Laureate Rabindranath Tagore, as a scholar’s retreat amidst nature. Shantiniketan mirrors the diverse and wide ranging interests of the poet-painter-philosopher and world citizen, Rabindranath Tagore, and has an exquisite collection of crafts and paintings by him and his contemporaries, as also later Indian painters and sculptors.
