Jaisalmer is in the heart of Thar desert and is a city of forts, palaces and havelis made from yellow sandstone.

In Jaisalmer every house is a monument of skills and creativity of Rajasthani craftsmen and artisans of medieval times, for every house has exquisite carvings and filigree work.

No wonder Jaisalmer is  often called the “museum city”.

Jaisalmer Fort : An imposing structure with high walls following the contours of the hill is the Citadel of Jaisalmer, the fortification built in 1156 A.D. on the Trikuta (tripple peaked hills). Within the high walls are palaces, towers, streets and buildings with over hanging balconies beautifully carved.

Jawahar Nivas Palace : The foundation of this palace was laid by the then ruling Maharawal of Jaisalmer. The palace is built entirely in golden sandstone with intricately carved jharokhas and chhatris in typical Jaisalmer architecture.

Patwon ki Haveli : It is a five storey mansion with its ceilings supported by carved and polished pillars. Painted murals adorn one of the apartments here.
